The message below was sent by attorney Laura Tidwell of NES to the Metro Council members. As they are considering process and policy changes now, one must wonder, would they had there not been an investigation? I believe you know the answer to that.

Subject: News Story

Members of the Metropolitan Council,
You may have seen a Channel 5 story regarding NES on Thursday evening. The story indicated that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is conducting an investigation into certain matters at NES.

Following an “investigative news report” earlier this year, a number of Council members requested an audit of certain areas of NES operations. As a result of that request, the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office commenced a review of NES. An audit team from the Comptroller’s Office has met with a number of NES employees, and NES is aware that a TBI agent was present during several interviews. NES has cooperated fully with the Comptroller’s Office and will continue to cooperate.

The review has prompted NES to consider several policy and process changes. We are awaiting a final report from the state and will address any issues identified in the report.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Laura
