NASHVILLE, TN. TNGOP
– In a mailer sent out by Democrat House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh
(D-Ripley) this week, he claims to be the only candidate against a
state income tax.
Despite his claim, the fact is that Craig Fitzhugh fought for and voted for a state income tax (SB 2646; 5/22/02).
“Craig Fitzhugh should be ashamed and embarrassed that he would flat out lie to voters in his district,” said Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney.
“Craig Fitzhugh should be ashamed and embarrassed that he would flat out lie to voters in his district,” said Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney.
“We
know that Craig Fitzhugh may have just found out that his re-election
bid is quickly sinking, but that is no excuse to belittle voters’
intelligence just days before the election. Instead of defending his
undisputed support for a state income tax, Mr. Fitzhugh has chosen
instead to take the path of a compulsive liar and potentially tarnish
his own reputation. We demand that Craig Fitzhugh make an immediate
apology for lying to District 82 voters, or at the very least, seek
counseling for his pathological lying.”
Craig
Fitzhugh is being challenged by Republican Johnny Edwards in House
District 82, which includes Lauderdale, Crockett and Haywood counties in
West Tennessee.
