Update 2: What happened at the 10-2-12 Council meeting; Employee Benefits cut.

Above is the video of the Oct. 2nd, 2012 council meeting.

I finally got around to watching it.  This was a boring meeting and not worth watching unless you have an interest in one of the zoning issues.

Former police Chief Joe Casey is honored and presented with a proclamation naming the west precinct in his honor (3:36).

I did not watch each of the public hearings on rezoning issue. If they don't effect your neighborhood they are real boring. If you want to see if any of them are in your area or for some reason my interest you, visit the agenda.

Things get a little testy between Councilman Dominy and Vice Mayor Neighbors. Dominy expresses concern about blasting that will be done to develop an underground parking garage and wants to question what effort will be made to monitor and control damage to homes in the area and the Vice Mayor won't allow him to discuss the issue, saying it will be discussed in council committees. (See 1:14:30) Council meetings might be a little longer but they would be a lot more informative and interesting it the Vice Mayor would let the council members have a little more leeway to pursue questions and express themselves.

Nashville council votes to cut pensions
Michael Cass,The Tennessean,Oct 2, 2012

Changes to benefits for future city employees sailed through the Metro Council on Tuesday.

Without discussion, the council gave final approval to a series of changes to pension and health care benefits designed to rein in some of the government’s expenses. “This starts the process of chipping away at some of our benefit costs,”

Metro Finance Director Rich Riebeling said after the vote. (link)

Little Red Hen 2012

"Who will help me plant my wheat?" asked the little red hen.

"Not I," said the cow.

"Not I," said the duck.

"Not I," said the pig.

"Not I," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself." She planted her crop and the wheat grew and ripened.

"Who will help me reap my wheat?" asked the little red hen.

"Not I," said the duck.

"Out of my classification," said the pig.

"I'd lose my seniority," said the cow.

"I'd lose my unemployment compensation," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen, and so she did.

"Who will help me bake the bread?" asked the little red hen.

"That would be overtime for me," said the cow.

"I'd lose my welfare benefits," said the duck.

"I'm a dropout and never learned how," said the pig.

"If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see.
They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share but the little red hen
said, "No, I shall eat all five loaves."

"Excess profits!" cried the cow.. (Nancy Pelosi)

"Capitalist leech!" screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)

"I demand equal rights!" yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)

The pig just grunted in disdain.. (Harry Reid)

And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

When the farmer (Obama) came he said to the little red hen, "You must not be so greedy."

"But I earned the bread," said the little red hen.

"Exactly," said Barack the farmer. "That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle."

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, "I am grateful, for now I truly understand."

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the
Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.

Individual initiative had died but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared so
long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.

And perhaps....this is the end...................

And the next week, there was no bread, or anything else to eat. So, they
all starved equally.

November is coming****

You mean to tell me there is voter fraud?

FL: Multistate voters emerge amid absentee ballot flurry

By Kenric Ward | Virginia Watchdog

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. —  Thousands of voters in Ohio and New York are also registered to vote in Florida and have cast multiple ballots, a new study charges.

Pew Research’s finding that 2.75 million Americans are registered to vote in more than one state continues to ring true. Unfortunately, we keep seeing more people possibly voting illegally,” said Catherine Engelbrecht, president of True the Vote, a nonpartisan election-integrity organization. (link)

What others are saying about the debate

Five Takeaways From The First Presidential Debate

October 4, 2012, by Alan Greenblatt, npr

Mitt Romney may have given his campaign something of a reset with his performance in the first debate against President Obama.

He appeared more comfortable on stage than the incumbent, and was able at least to lay the groundwork for a message of bipartisanship that could appeal to remaining undecided voters.(link)

Presidential Debate Instant Polls Show Romney Wins

The Huffington Post, WASHINGTON -- Television viewers' snap judgments of the first presidential debate favored Mitt Romney, according to two "instant reaction" polls and a focus group conducted during and immediately after the candidates met in Denver. CBS News, which as in past elections and presidential addresses used the GfK's KnowledgePanel representative Internet panel to interview 523 uncommitted voters who watched the debate (with a reported margin of error of +/- 4 percent).

Its sample included voters who were either totally undecided before the debate or who were leaning to a candidate, but said they may still change their minds. Respondents were unambiguous about who won. By a 46 percent to 22 percent margin, the poll's uncommitted voters said they thought Romney won. (link)

Presidential Debate: Obama Had No Chutzpah, and Why Didn't He Confront Romney's Blatant Dishonesty More?

by Alternet.

Lots of pulled punches and missed opportunities for the president, leaving an energetic Romney to say whatever he liked.

The pundits' quick reaction to the first presidential debate was virtually unanimous: Romney had the energy, was well prepared and pushed his arguments forcefully, while Obama held back, throwing weak jabs and abandoning the populist message that he's featured on the campaign trail.(link)

Look at the sources quoted above. They are all liberal to left and they say Romney won. This was a great night! I hope this translates into a Romney lead in the polls. I think that next week, Ryan will do real well in the debate with Biden.

Watching Romney win the debate at the GOP debate watch party

I watched the debate tonight at the Republican Party debate watch party at Three Stones Pub in Belleview. About 65 people filled the bar and watched TV on about six different screens. It was great to watch the debate in this setting with like minded people. People applauded and cheered as Romney scored points and hit Obama with zingers.

Kathleen Starnes, Chair DCRP,  being interviewed by News 2

Lonnie Spivak
Member of the DCRP Board
hosted the Party.
In my opinion, Romney knocked it out of the ball park. He had a mastery of the issues, he appeared calm and sure of himself and did not let Obama get away with distorting his position. Obama, on the other hand, appeared grumpy and defensive and mad and had trouble articulating a position.

I could not have been more pleased. I have not yet watched or read commentary so I don't know how professional journalist and spin artist saw it, but I thought Romney was by far the better debater and presented the more compelling

arguments and vision for the future.

Beth and Bill Campbell, Larry Maxwell, and
Mark Rogers are among the debate watchers.
Mary Ann Parks and Charles Williamson
sit at the bar and watch the debate.
Charles is the Republican candidate for
State House in District 50.

My wife Louella and our friend Sue Duess
attend. Sue won one of the door prizes,
an "empty chair" campaign tee shirt.
